Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement

The Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement was created to improve the nationwide distribution of information on comprehensive school reform. With operations that began in October 2004, the Center is operated by Learning Point Associates in partnership with SEDL. Learning Point Associates is a nonprofit education research and consulting organization that aims to achieve advancements in teaching and learning while SEDL is an Austin-based private, nonprofit corporation in the field of education research, development, and dissemination. The Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement is funded through the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education of the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C.
The Center carries its mission to “help schools organize, plan, implement, and sustain improvement” particularly by supporting schools and school districts that are considering and undertaking school reform and improvement. In the execution of their mission, the Center utilizes effective and accessible resources that can be used by anyone interested in improving schools and increasing student achievement. Its resources include:

  • School Reform and Improvement Database that contains nearly 5,000 citations and abstracts of research reports, articles, and school improvement studies from scholars throughout the United States. The database features a subject index and simple and advanced search schemes.
  • Publications that include monthly newsletters, giving updates on topics related to school reform and improvement; policy briefs that present an outline of current issues in school reform; issue briefs designed to enlighten readers regarding federal law or basic implementation of programs; semi-annual research briefs that help policy makers and educators comprehend school improvement research and practice; and other additional publications.
  • Webcasts and podcasts
  • Research-based tools, guides, and information offering practical advice, templates, surveys, data collection instruments, and other program evaluation tools
  • Ask-the-Expert service that provides research services for school improvement efforts and answers to frequently asked questions on diverse topics encompassing special education, school resource allocation, assessment, charter schools, and literacy to name some.
