The Benigno S. Aquino Foundation: An Enduring Legacy
Even in their deaths, Sen. Benigno S. Aquino and former President Corazon C. Aquino have united and touched the Filipino people in innumerable ways.
They are beacons of hope for the Filipinos during their lifetime. Through the Sen. Benigno S. Aquino Foundation, the late Corazon Aquino helped countless of Filipinos especially with microfinance, leadership skills, and most especially, education. The BSAF was established to perpetuate the memory ideals and values of the late Senator Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. The Foundation is legally registered as a non-profit organization with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission.
In its organizational profile, BSAF’s programs reflect the values upheld by the Aquino family, which stemmed from their convictions and life experiences. It supports activities that embody the spirit of people power as a strong positive force for societal change and reform. It has extended help to many deserving excellent students throughout the country to support their endeavors of finishing college. Last February 2009, five months before her death, Cory Aquino participated in the formal opening of the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Scholarship Program at De La Salle University (DLSU) in Manila. This recent program aims to help financially challenged students who excel in the university. This was also in partnership with the BSAF.
Reluctantly pushed into the Presidency during the post-Marcos era, Cory Aquino had served as an example to all the people around the world that truly helping people knows no bounds. Indeed, with his husband before her, they have both become enduring icons in the world landscape.
