Martha Stewart Show to feature The Ross School

The Ross School, the innovative school in East Hampton, New York founded by Courtney Sale Ross, was the subject of a special installment of The Martha Stewart Show. The production crew was on campus to conduct interviews and film a segment about the Ross School’s commitment to global education. The show aired on April 28, 2009.

Ross School students were interviewed and filmed as they engaged in various activities related to global community and cultural education. “What they ended up focusing on is our approach to educating the whole child for the whole world,” said Head of School Michele Claeys, “that is, the way we immerse our students in global, cultural history so they have a real understanding of the people they’ll be working with to solve the problems of the 21st century.” This unique approach to education reflects Courtney Sale Ross’ vision of a holistic and complete education.

The is the Ross School’s second appearance on The Martha Stewart Show. The first time the Ross School was featured, the show focused on the school’s lunchroom, which boasts organic and home grown food. The chef who ran this wonderful and healthy lunchroom was Chef Ann Cooper. Sometimes, the food was prepared to match what the studies happened to be studying, such as a 15th century style meal that reflected Renaissance food.

For the second show, Courtney Sale Ross will chat with Martha Student about the school. Most of the interviews will be conducted during the M-term, which is the Ross School’s winter session. During this term, students have the opportunity to engage in community work. Ross School students have gone to Tanzania to help build elementary schools, while other students have gone to the South Bronx to learn about urban renewal projects. Other community work that Ross Students engaged in have taken place in Morocco, Belize, and Italy. Thanks to a generous scholarship program, all students have the opportunity to study in these once-in-a-lifetime educational adventures.
