Richard Li Donates $1 Million to NAC
Richard Li is a Chinese-Canadian entrepreneur from Hong Kong. He is the current head of the Pacific Century CyberWorks Limited (or PCCW Ltd), the leading supplier of communications solutions in Hong Kong. He likewise manages the Pacific Century Regional Developments Ltd, the Pacific Century Regional Developments Ltd, and the Pacific Century Group.
In 2006, Richard Li endowed a generous gift worth $1 million to the National Arts Centre Foundation, an education charity for its center of performing arts in Ontario, Canada. This donation, the largest contribution for the foundation to date, was announced during the National Arts Centre’s yearly fundraising celebration.
Li’s grants came at a notable time, as the National Arts Centre honored its 10th Anniversary of the gala as well as the 5th anniversary of the National Youth and Education Trust’s inception. The earnings at the gala are sent yearly to the National Youth and Education Trust, which supports the Canadian youth in their talent in the arts.
The National Arts Centre’s chief executive officer and president, Peter Herrndorf, said that he and the Canadian institution were thankful to be given such importance by a well-respected and highly successful business leader like Richard Li.
Due to Richard Li’s generosity, NAC has been able to provide quality learning and performance initiatives for young artists situated in Canada. It assists learners to boost their gifts and helps drive them forward in their careers.
The contributions made by Richard Li was likewise meant for establishing scholarships and educational programs for young students and artists living in China, making it possible for them to take part in the National Arts Centre’s Summer Music Institute held every year.
Previously in 2003, Richard Li, alongside the Pacific Century CyberWorks, also contributed $1 million to the Business Community Relief Fund for the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) victims.
