The Chocolate University
The Chocolate University is a collaborative partnership between the Drury University, Boyd Elementary and Askinosie Chocolate. The Chocolate University aims to provide the students of Boyd elementary with a transdisciplinary learning experience by exposing them to artisan chocolate-making.
The small bean-to-bar chocolate manufacturer, Askinosie Chocolate, can be found in Springfield Missouri. Askinosie Chocolate obtains their beans straight from several farmers all over the world. The chocolate manufacturer entered into partnership with the Drury University in order to allow the students of the Boyd-Berry Elementary School to gain real-world experience through the Chocolate University program.
In order to do that, the program employs strategies to offer the students with a program of inquiry. The Chocolate University encourages the students to investigate and know more about the sustainable practices that are beneficial to the planet.
Apart from those, the program also implements several other strategies such as ensuring the students’ focus and interest towards the exploration of a wide range of economic principles. The Chocolate University also aims to create a multicultural atmosphere that is conducive for learning and working. By creating such environment, the students are able to appreciate each of their own uniqueness by learning more on entrepreneurial activity.
Through the program, the students are able to learn more about the entrepreneurial development of the Askinosie Chocolate business. They can also engage in several activities within the Drury University campus, which allow them to gain more working knowledge about the school and its learning resources as well. Additionally, students are also encouraged to learn more about the history, people, culture, language, and natural resources of the countries from which the chocolate manufacturer obtains its beans.
As of now, the Chocolate University sets its focus on developing several funding initiatives. In line with the program’s objective, the Chocolate University’s efforts are heavily related to the education of the students enrolled at the Pipkin Middle School, Boyd Elementary, and Central High School.
