Educational Theory

The world of education changes as rapidly as technology and society. How we teach our children changes on society’s priorities and shifting values. Only a century ago, education was focused upon learning classical languages, practical trades, and the firm belief in unchanging stability. But now, education is centered on critical thinking, the practical use of foreign languages, and critical thinking.

There are sharp disagreements over the best methods of reforming our schools. Some believe we need more testing, and create more methods of measuring progress. Advocates of the No Child Left Behind policies believe that through the use of extensive testing and implementation of national standards, we can better understand what are the weaknesses in each given school. Still others believe a more holistic approach that puts less emphasis on testing and more concentration on personal development. This school of thought asserts that every child has a different way of learning.
