Barack Obama

Recently elected President of the United States of America, Barack Obama has been very vocal about the reinforcing of charter schools and investing in early childhood education ever since he was still a junior senator from Illinois. Obama also aims to provide college opportunities to all Americans.

Though a lot of pivotal and focal figures have already aligned themselves to support charter schools, the presence of the United States president has increased the chances of significantly improving the services and eliminating the inadequacies experienced by charter schools in the country. Barack Obama says that he will invest in and experiment with charter schools in his effort to improve the quality of education in public schools.

With his stand, Barack Obama faces a lot of opposition especially from teacher unions. Barack Obama, however, countered that teachers have his support, adding that his sister is a teacher herself. He also adds to he will have teachers’ salaries increased. To boost education’s quality and the number of teachers, Obama also pledged to offer free college education for people who will commit to a teaching career.

Obama is very passionate about developing early childhood education. One of his planned projects towards this direction is to reform the No Child Left Behind Act – a law that provides parents a wider range of flexibility in choosing which schools their children will attend and increases the accountability for states, school districts, and schools in terms of academic performance among others. Obama seeks to further improve the provisions in this act to better the chances of children getting quality education.

Obama also believes that Americans should have a college degree to have better chances of leading a successful life. For students who want to attend college but are financially-strapped, Obama will design a tax credit worth $4,000 in exchange for community service. The amount will cover two-thirds of the total expenses of college education at an average public college. He also proposes to make community college tuition free for most students.
