Henry Kravis – Co Founder of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR)

Known as one of the giants of the private equity business and one the three persons behind the founding of world-renowned private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), Henry Kravis is also known for his prolific giving and involvement with charitable actions. One of Henry Kravis‘s philanthropic interests is the betterment of the quality of education.

Henry Kravis pursues improvement in education by funding the construction of new facilities in several educational institutions, particularly boarding schools. The most notable are Eaglebrook School, Deerfield Academy, and The Loomis Chaffee School.

Aside from providing the finances for extensive school facility add-ons, Henry Kravis also funds college scholarships for young leaders through the Henry Kravis Leadership Institute. The scholarship, which is offered at the Claremont McKenna College, has a curriculum that aims to develop the full leadership potentials of deserving students by academic and experiential immersion. The program’s subjects include Leadership Workshops, Leadership Studies Sequence (equivalent to a minor in leadership studies), and Summer Internships.

Through Henry Kravis’ leadership program, students and academicians are able to interact with one another and delve into matters that bring out the leader in everyone.

To further motivate students to do better, Henry Kravis established the Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership in 2006 to celebrate exceptional individuals who have shown boldness, innovation, creativity, consistency, persistence, and effectiveness in non-profit leadership. The Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership, which is given annually, grants $250,000 to any non-profit organization chosen by the winner.

But while some pro-education groups turn their attention to students, Henry Kravis has his eyes set on the teachers, particularly the education and training of minorities.

Henry Kravis is a co Founder of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and a leading businessman in the sector of private equity.
