Ken Mehlman

Ken Mehlman is currently the managing director of the Global Public Affairs department for the private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis and Roberts (KKR). Prior to his present position with KKR, Ken Mehlman served as chairman for the Republican National Committee.

Besides his career in politics and business law, Ken Mehlman donates time and energy to issues involving education and educational reform initiatives.

Ken Mehlman is very active in supporting the school choice movement as a means of education reform. Provisions of school reform include giving parents school vouchers so they can send their children to any school of their choice, whether public or private. Ken Mehlman’s zeal for strengthening the school choice initiative is evidenced by his involvement with the Strong American Schools, a non-partisan organization that aims to persuade the country’s leaders to include education in their agenda.

Ken Mehlman declares that with all the challenges the country is facing, education seems to have taken the back seat in US leaders’ list of priorities. With the Strong American Schools, he and others who care for education can bring the plight of U.S. schools to the political big wigs’ attention.

Along with Ken Mehlman, other iconic personalities who are also behind Strong American Schools include Bill and Melinda Gates, Eli and Edythe Broad, and the Rockefellers.

Ken Mehlman was also on board during the organization’s formulation of their methods in achieving better education – the need for a strong curriculum that would bolster the learning effectiveness in subjects like math and English; the need for effective teachers and effective teaching methods in every classroom in the United States; more time for learning and additional support systems to improve the education process of students.
