Formed in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina in 1946, it currently serves more than 14 million consumers in a week, with its thousands of stores (1,710 in the US and 7 Canada). With its new branch that opened in South Burlington, Vermont, Lowe’s now has stores in 50 American states.
In addition to its business success, Lowe’s is also successful in its efforts to establish its community service.
Its Toolbox for Education organization supports school improvement projects established by its parent groups. It has donated grants of up to $5,000 for projects on public school improvement.
In 2006, Lowe’s gave endowments to about 1,000 schools. In addition, the company’s International Paper, Charitable and Educational Foundation and National Geographic Explorer! Magazine have partnered to form an outdoor classroom grant initiative. The program aims to let students take on hands-on natural science experiences, enabling enrichment opportunities in its core curriculum.
