Oprah Winfrey: Inspiring Many
Oprah Winfrey, or simply Oprah, is a world renowned icon and inspiration. Inspiration to all who were abused, oppressed and hard lucked; inspiration to all who dare to dream and dream big; inspiration to women who through her has now known what hard work and dedication can achieve.
Oprah Winfrey has helped so many that it is incalculable how much money and time she has produced to bolster the efforts for improved lives and living situations. In 2008, $4 million was raised by Oprah to help fund the efforts in improving education. Education has been one of her most fervent advocacies through the years. She has promoted the importance of reading through her book club and donated funds to help those deserving students in need. An example was in 2008 when she voluntarily donated money and showed her support to educator Ron Clark. Ron Clark is an educator who teaches at risk kids for free. He visited the Oprah show and from there, he obtained the support of the generous talk show icon. Oprah then sent a letter to Clark and with it was a donation of $365,000 to pay for the tuition of the students in Clark’s private school.
Her generosity also knows no bounds. In Africa, as a promise to world icon Nelson Mandela, Oprah opened her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy giving 150 girls in Africa a chance at a better future. It is a $40 million dollar donation that aims to change the face of Africa. Her main aim is to empower girls who are being discriminated in the continent. Through this small step, she looks forward to an increase in awareness and women empowerment. Not long after starting the academy, Oprah opened another school in South Africa.
Oprah continues to be the face and the voice of modern women all over the world. However, more than anything else, she remains firm in her mission of pushing for her advocacy of good education made available to all.
