Best Buy Company Inc is a global brand and is listed as one of the Fortune 500 Companies. It is one of the largest retailers of consumer electronics in the United States accounting for 19% of the market. It is affiliated with many subsidiaries like the Geek Squad and also operates in Canada, Puerto Rico, China and Mexico. In Canada, it also operates under the Future Shop label. It has continually increased its operations and has planned to set up more stores all over the US and around the world. It has also opened franchises in the United Kingdom and other European countries. In 2004, Forbes Magazine bestowed Best Buy with the “Company of the Year” award. It has also been named as “Specialty Retailer of the Decade and included in the top ten of the Forbes “Most Generous” list.
Reaping the benefits of continuous growth, Best Buy has gone out of its way to provide help especially to those who are in dire need of it. The company aspires to be a responsible, values-driven corporation that not only provides what the customers want, but more importantly, provides a solution or experience that can improve a customer’s life. Through the Best Buy Foundation, the company has worked with other non-profit organizations in support of programs that provide opportunities for the youth. This help is intended to encourage the youth to excel in school, engage in their communities, and develop leadership skills.
In 2009, in partnership with Best Buy’s @15 Scholarship Program, Best Buy awarded $1.5 million’s worth of scholarships to 1,000 students from the United States and Puerto Rico. These high school seniors want to pursue college but are unable to do so because of financial constraints. The grant aims to provide a brighter future for these young people.
