Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation
Wachovia, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, is a financial services subsidiary company of Wells Fargo. An independent business, Wachovia was formerly the fourth largest bank holding business in the US, based on total assets. It is also one of the big banks committed to serving the community through various educationally focused programs.
The Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation, a privately owned foundation, commits itself to partnerships and programs that help educators in developing student achievement. In 2004, it established the Wachovia Foundation Teachers and Teaching Initiative, a multimillion dollar program that donates funds to various groups that focus on teacher development, recruitment, retention and support. The program aims to further increase K-12 student achievement.
Additionally, the Wachovia Foundation dedicates itself to eliminating the pre-K-12 “achievement gap” by means of public school facilitated or supported curriculum-based initiatives.
Another cause that Wachovia is supporting is Teach for America, which the company cofounded. Teach for America is the nationwide organization of exceptional fresh college graduates who advocate themselves to teaching in rural and urban public education institutions.
The Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation aims to produce strong and active communities, enhance the quality of life and generate a positive difference.
Aside from education, it also supports these areas: civic, arts and culture, environment, community development and health and human services.
